T-BALL
Coach's Guidelines
(For boys and girls age 5)
Our T-Ball program is
an entry level program designed to introduce our younger children
to the game of baseball. These kids are there to have fun. The job
of a T-Ball coach (challenging as it may be) is to ensure that all
players have an enjoyable and positive experience as well as to give
them a basic introduction to this game we call "baseball".
We have developed the following general guidelines for coaches to
assist in that endeavor:
Field Layout and Positions
Don't assume that players at this age know and understand this.
-- Show and explain the field layout to them.
-- Let them play different positions during the game and during the
season.
-- Avoid keeping your best players on the pitcher's mound and first
base.
-- All players should play the field even if the number of players
that you have exceeds 9; no players should sit the bench.
-- There is no catcher at this level.
Batting
-- All players hit from the tee; there is no pitching in T-Ball.
-- One coach should assist players at the tee.
-- Use a continuous batting order; each player should bat each inning.
-- Runners advance one base at a time only; the last hitter in each
inning may "round" the bases by agreement of the coaches.
-- Runners remain on base even if the opposing team records an out.
-- Helmets must be worn at all times (including runners).
Games
-- Games are no longer than 3 innings.
-- There are no strike outs (K's); if a player is having difficulty
hitting the ball off of the tee, then a coach should assist.
-- Coaches should be on the field with players (not in dugouts).
