Coach's Guidelines
(For girls age 10 to 12)
At this level, the coach's responsibility
is that of sharpening and fine tuning the player's techniques and
skills in preparation for entry into our Juniors program. We have
developed the following general guidelines to help assist our coaches.
Field Layout & Positions
-- Review and reinforce the player's knowledge in this area early
in the season.
-- Give all players the opportunity to develop new skills by allowing
them to play as many positions as possible, keeping in mind player
safety at all times.
-- Only 9 players may be on the field at any one time; every player
on a team must participate in each game for a minimum of six (6) defensive
outs.
Batting
-- Use a continuous batting order; all players should be placed in
the batting order.
-- Stealing and advancing on passed balls is permitted.
-- No leading - runners cannot leave the base until the ball reaches
the batter.
-- Yes, there is aninfield fly rule at this level.
-- Helmets must be worn at all times.
-- No on-deck batters.
Pitching
-- If the pitching machine is in use, one of the opposing team's coaches
will feed balls into the machine.
-- If a batted ball hits the pitching machine, the ball is dead and
the batter is awarded 1st base and only forced runners may advance
one base.
-- If the pitching machine is not in use, all players are eligible
to pitch at this level.
-- Each pitcher may not pitch more than six (6) innings per game and
nine (9) innings per week (Sunday thru Saturday).
-- There are no balks.
Games
-- Games are six (6) innings long unless the score is tied; extra
innings are permitted.
-- Games should not exceed 2 hours. Coaches should use discretion,
especially early in the season when daylight is limited, and should
not begin a new inning if it cannot be completed under the circumstances.
-- Teams must play four (4) innings (3 ½ if the home team is
ahead) for the game to constitute a complete game.
-- There is a four (4) run maximum per half (1/2) inning or three
(3) outs, whichever comes first.
-- Unlimited runs in the last inning but, if the inning in not completed,
then the team who was leading at the end of the last completed inning
is the winner.
-- League approved adult coaches should be used as base coaches on
the 1st and 3rd baselines.
Note: Jewelry is not permitted. Players should wear long pants at
all times when they are on the field - no shorts.
